Manna Moments: Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Can it be that July is nearly over? I say a big thank you to Sam, Nate, Rich, and Charlene for hosting Midweek Manna in July while my family and I took a trip south to Texas! Wow, God has blessed us with such a beautiful country to live in. I enjoyed seeing the cactus growing wild and the flatlands of the south.

Today on Midweek Manna, we talked air-conditioning with my co-host, Charlene Putprush, Financial Administrator for Southern Light. She and her family have been traveling this month too, and when they returned home, they discovered their air-conditioner was on the brink! Not good when it’s triple digits outside! The first air-conditioner was created in the 1830’s! The modern air-conditioning units were first designed in 1902 by an engineer named Willis Carrier. Sound familiar? Thanks to Willis, we can “keep our cool”! By the way, July 3rd through August 15th is National Air Conditioning Appreciation days. Just a reminder, we are looking for some good, original grilling recipes for August! Come on, and concoct something delicious to share with other Midweek Manna listeners! You could win a Panera Bread gift card worth $10! Next week, we’ll be talking to Rebecca Wilson, offering great inspiration! Hope you tune in!

Our Scrambled Bible Word for this week is: E W A T S

(answer is below)

Verse of the Week:

In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread…….Genesis 3:19

Tip of the Week:

Without some careful packing your family road-trip could turn deadly this summer. Safety experts say ordinary items, like a can of beans or a suitcase, turn into dangerous projectiles in an accident! Flying in-car projectiles cause 13,000 injuries every year. If you have a wreck at 55 miles per hour, a backpack or small cooler can hit with enough force to literally sever your arm!
• First, check your owner’s manual to find out how much weight your car can carry. If you're going to strap suitcases to the roof, make sure they're no higher than 18 inches and no heavier than 100 pounds. Anything more is a rollover risk.
• If you have a booster seat, strap it in with the seatbelt just like if a child was in it.
• Heavy items, like loaded coolers, should be as close to the front and as low as possible. That way, if you do slam on the breaks they won’t go sailing through the car from the backseat. If you keep them low, they’ll slam into the seats before they take your arm off.
• GPS isn’t perfect, so get an old-school back up.
• Once you’re packed up and ready to hit the road, check out TravelInformation.AAA.com. You can plan your route and get the most updated road information.

Health Tip of the Week:

Drinking apple juice significantly improved mood and behavior among a group of patients diagnosed with moderate-to-severe Alzheimer’s disease.

Thought for the week:

It takes more to plow a field than merely turning it over in your mind….

Answer to our scrambled word of the week: SWEAT
